Taking so many risks just to have a son?

I think it's sad that Ghazala Khamis was forced by her morals and culture to take fertility drugs in the first place. It seems to me, coming from a more developed country, that it shouldn't matter if you have a son or a daughter as long as they are healthy, for over here both genders can be evenly successful in life.
Even though Mr. and Mrs. Khamis wanted a boy in their family, life would have probably been much easier for them raising just the three girls they already had. By taking the fertility drugs, Mrs. Khamis should have known (or been told by doctors) about the risk of having a multiple pregnancy or maybe even another girl instead of the desired son. Furthermore, like mentioned in the article, the Khamis own a home with only two rooms, and Mr. Khamis works just a few days of the week. Therefore they are going to have to face many difficulties such as not having enough space, food, and simply money to afford a ten people household. But hopefully they will be able to get some support from the government or maybe even someone who reads about their story.
